WhatsApp rolls out a new Events feature for group chats. What is it and how does it work?
Meta-owned personal messaging platform WhatsApp is now introducing a new Events feature aimed at simplifying the process of organizing meetings, gatherings, and other events directly within group chats. The feature has started rolling out with the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.9.20 update, with plans for a wider release in the near future.
The Events feature was initially restricted to Community Group chats, but WhatsApp is now expanding its availability to regular group chats as well. With this new feature, users can create Events within group chats by providing details such as the event name, description, date, location, and specifics about voice or video calls. Group members can then accept or decline the invitation, and creators can update the event details as necessary.
Future Functionalities
WhatsApp is not stopping there, as they are reportedly considering adding more functionalities in the future. These may include the ability to set event reminders and add cover photos to the events within group chats.
Similar to other features on WhatsApp, events in group chats are private, and only participants in the conversation will have access to the event details. This ensures the privacy of the event information shared within the group.
Additionally, WhatsApp is also making strides with Meta AI, where they have recently launched the Meta AI assistant for users in India directly through WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. Meta AI offers insights and real-time search results from Microsoft and Google, enhancing the user experience across these platforms.
Users can expect to interact with Meta AI while browsing through Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, getting real-time information and assistance for various tasks such as trip planning or navigation.
