OpenAI has released the desktop app of its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT for macOS. The app is now available to both paid subscribers and free users. The dedicated app for Mac devices was first announced by the AI firm at the Spring Updates event last month. Initially rolled out to ChatGPT Plus users, it is now accessible to all users, accompanying Voice Mode support.

Optimised User Experience

The macOS app offers all the functionalities of the web client along with an optimised experience and additional on-device features. Users can launch the chatbot instantly by pressing Options + Space keys together. Additionally, users can quickly take a screenshot of the entire screen or a part of it and directly load it into the app to ask questions.

Moreover, users can upload files and photos, which the AI processes using computer vision to provide relevant answers. For example, users can inquire about the species of a bird in a picture. The Voice Mode feature allows users to interact with the AI verbally and receive spoken responses.

Enhanced Features

The dedicated ChatGPT app comes with various useful features from the web version, including the ability to view older conversations in a side panel on the left margin. The Memory feature has also been integrated, allowing the AI to remember certain user information. OpenAI has announced that GPT-4o access will be added to the app soon.
