1. ChatGPT

Artificial intelligence is everywhere—but not all AI tools are created equal. While new models appear every month, only a handful have proven they can work at scale, attract real users, and provide clear value. At Just AI News we wanted to create a list that focuses on the platforms people actually use—whether it’s helping students understand a tough topic, speeding up tasks at work, or just answering everyday questions. These AI tools aren’t just demos; they’re part of how millions (sometimes billions) of people now interact with technology.

To make the cut, each platform here stands out in at least one of three areas: massive user adoption, unique technical features, or clear usefulness in real-life scenarios. Some are built into messaging apps and browsers, others are standalone services. Some are general assistants that can write, explain, or code, while others specialize in tasks like image generation, customer support, or business workflows. By comparing what they do and how they’re used, we get a snapshot of where AI is actually making a difference.

You’ll find familiar names like ChatGPT, Bing Chat, and Gemini—but also fast-growing tools like DeepSeek, Perplexity, and Grok that are quietly building strong communities or solving specific needs. Whether built for creativity, productivity, or just better search, these artificial intelligence platforms are shaping how people interact with information, work, and even entertainment.

To further enhance user experience, ChatGPT not only serves as a general-purpose digital assistant through a chat interface but also has a solid track record of 100 million users within two months of launch.

As a general-purpose AI tool, ChatGPT’s use cases span from everyday tasks, as drafting emails, translating or summarizing text, to specialized support, helping programmers write and fix code, generating creative stories, providing tutoring in subjects. OpenAI’s partnership with Microsoft also led to some of ChatGPT’s capabilities being integrated into products like Bing and Microsoft’s Copilot services.

With an active developer ecosystem and widespread media attention, ChatGPT remains one of the most recognizable AI tools globally.

2. Meta AI

Meta AI is a conversational assistant integrated across Meta’s social and messaging platforms, including WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and also available through smart glasses. It can answer questions, engage in small talk, and help users with a variety of queries similar to other chatbots.

Uniquely, Meta AI also has the ability to generate images in response to prompts, and Meta has launched a range of AI personas (often themed after celebrities or characters) that people can chat with for different styles of interaction. For example, there are AI personas for sports advice, motivational coaching, etc., each with their own name and personality but all powered by underlying Meta AI technology.

Launched during the Meta Connect 2024 conference, Meta AI started rolling out to U.S. users on WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram shortly after, and by early 2025 expanded to other regions, except the EU initially due to regulatory considerations. The adoption of Meta AI was massive because it was embedded in apps that already have billions of users. Within weeks of launch, Mark Zuckerberg announced that Meta AI had almost 500 million monthly users, making it one of the most widely used AI assistants virtually overnight.

Meta achieved this reach by adding a friendly “Meta AI” contact in WhatsApp and a dedicated chat in other apps, thereby introducing the chatbot to huge user bases in India, the Americas, and beyond.

It quickly became the world’s most used AI chatbot in terms of user count. Meta also noted that users were heavily engaging with the feature, thanks in part to fun additions like generating photorealistic images in chat and the novelty of celebrity-themed chat personas.

By incorporating the ability to generate images, Meta AI has distinguished itself as a versatile platform that not only provides assistance but also engages users through visual content.

3. Microsoft Bing Chat (Copilot)

Bing Chat is Microsoft’s AI-powered chat assistant integrated into the Bing search engine and Edge browser. It offers a conversational way of searching: you can ask questions in natural language, and Bing Chat synthesizes information from across the web—complete with cited sources.

In addition to standard Q&A, it can generate creative pieces (like poems or short stories), write code snippets, summarize articles, and compare products or ideas. Essentially, it brings together the power of a search engine and an AI assistant.

Launched in February 2023 as part of the “new Bing,” it initially required joining a waitlist before rolling out to everyone. Within a month, Bing’s daily active user count surpassed 100 million, boosted by the novelty of AI-driven chat. Microsoft has continued to refine Bing Chat, adding conversation styles such as “Creative” or “Precise,” plus an integrated Bing Image Creator based on DALL-E.

On Windows 11, Bing Chat is baked into the system-wide Copilot panel, making the chatbot easy to reach at any time. By mid-2023, Microsoft reported over 1 billion chats in the first few months alone, illustrating the appeal of AI-enhanced search.

For enhanced user experience, Bing Chat now includes features such as generating creative pieces and utilizing an integrated Bing Image Creator based on DALL-E, thereby offering a more comprehensive AI-powered assistance.

4. DeepSeek

DeepSeek is a conversational AI assistant similar to ChatGPT, developed by a Chinese company. It provides a chat interface where users can ask questions, request help with tasks, and get content generated in response. DeepSeek can handle a variety of jobs: writing and rewriting text (emails, essays), summarizing documents, solving reasoning problems, coding assistance, and more. In functionality, it mirrors the capabilities of other advanced chatbots, but what sets DeepSeek apart is its open-source approach and free accessibility.

DeepSeek actually offers two main AI models under the hood: DeepSeek-V3, which is optimized for speed and general tasks (much like a ChatGPT equivalent), and DeepThink-R1, a more powerful model geared towards complex reasoning (positioned as an alternative to GPT-4). Both are made available at no cost to users.

It emerged in late 2024 and gained international attention by early 2025. It was founded in 2023 by a former hedge fund manager in China, Liang Wenfeng, with the goal of creating high-performing AI models at a fraction of the usual cost. In January 2025, DeepSeek’s AI assistant went viral on social media and quickly started “breaking the internet” with the volume of interest. By the end of January 2025, the DeepSeek mobile app had become the #1 most downloaded free app on both the iOS App Store and Google Play Store in the U.S. and dozens of other countries. Users were drawn by the fact that DeepSeek was completely free to use (no subscription needed for the full model) and offered performance on par with Western models. Additionally, DeepSeek’s DeepThink-R1 model does something unusual: it visibly shows its step-by-step “thought process” and how long it took to arrive at an answer before giving the final answer.

To enhance user interaction, DeepSeek provides a unique experience by offering high-performing AI models at no cost, making it accessible to a wider audience.

5. Google Gemini

Google first unveiled Bard in early 2023 as a conversational AI that could tackle various tasks, such as answering questions, creating drafts, and coding assistance. Over time, Bard transitioned into Google Gemini, which, by 2025, fully replaced the Bard name. Gemini is a highly advanced AI model that processes both text and images, making it more flexible and powerful than the original Bard. It’s tightly woven into Google’s ecosystem: you can generate responses, refine them via Google Search, or export results to Docs or Gmail with ease.

Before the rebrand, Bard’s user count climbed into the hundreds of millions thanks to its easy access and constant upgrades. As Gemini, it still offers the same (and even better) functionality—responding to prompts, summarizing content, and assisting with various tasks.
