Surge in AI skills interest to continue in 2025
According to a recent technology trends report from O’Reilly, AI skills are expected to drive significant shifts in learning and development in the coming year. The analysis of data from 2024 revealed a substantial increase in the usage of AI-related skills, such as prompt engineering (up 465%), AI principles (up 386%), and generative AI (up 289%).
Interestingly, there was a 13% decline in the usage of ChatGPT-related topics, as developers are now leaning towards acquiring foundational AI knowledge over platform-specific skills. This shift enables them to utilize various generative AI tools like Google Gemini and Claude effectively.
Focus on Security and Compliance
Security emerged as another critical focus in the tech landscape, with a 44% increase in interest in governance, risk, and compliance. Additionally, content related to securing specific applications saw a 17% growth, highlighting the growing importance of cybersecurity in the industry.
O’Reilly's report also highlighted the evolving role of AI, stating that it is transforming from generative capabilities to a transformative force that reshapes how developers approach their work. Mike Loukides, the vice president of emerging technology content at O’Reilly, emphasized the need for professionals to prioritize upskilling to effectively integrate these tools into their operations.
