OpenAI launches its Sora video-creation tool to the public
OpenAI has officially released its text-to-video generation software Sora to the public. This innovative video tool makes use of generative artificial intelligence, the same technology that powers ChatGPT, to transform plain-language text prompts into loops of artificially created videos.
The initial showcase of this feature took place in February of 2024, where a limited number of filmmakers and artists were given access to test the capabilities of Sora. Now, anyone with a paid ChatGPT account can explore and experiment with this feature. Users with ChatGPT Plus accounts can create videos in 720p resolution with a maximum length of five seconds, while ChatGPT Pro subscribers have access to full 1080p resolution and longer duration videos.
Additional Features of Sora
Aside from its text-to-video generation capabilities, Sora offers users the ability to remix videos, sequence scenes by stringing together different prompts, and even convert still images into animated clips.

"We’re introducing our video generation technology now to give society time to explore its possibilities and co-develop norms and safeguards that ensure it’s used responsibly as the field advances," mentioned OpenAI in a blog post.
Sora videos will feature optional watermarks and include metadata indicating that they were AI-generated. OpenAI has stated that there will be initial restrictions on uploading videos containing human subjects and the platform will actively prevent the creation of inappropriate content such as sexual deepfakes or material related to child abuse.
